Gynecomasty

It can be described as female type breast enlargement in men. It appears in varying degrees. It may occur in the form of enlargement in the breast tissue (true type glandular gynecomastia), excessive fat accumulation in the breast (false type lipomatous gynecomastia) or a combination of both. Breast size causes aesthetic and psychosocial problems in men. It happens 90-95% spontaneously. It occurs due to structural reasons and excessive weight gain. Rarely, it may indicate endocrinological and urological problems.
It would be beneficial to request breast USG after a careful examination and, in some cases, to get endocrinology and urology opinions.

The treatment for this problem is usually surgery. The operation takes 1-1.5 hours with general anesthesia. The method to be applied is determined by the degree of breast size. In cases where there is no excess skin, the oil absorption method usually gives sufficient results. If necessary, breast tissue removal with incisions made from the nipple is also added to the surgery. In these methods, 1-2 cm scars are left at the entrance.
Breast reduction techniques are applied in cases with excess skin. The operation takes 1.5-2 hours with general anesthesia. In this method, scars are left around the nipple and extending from the nipple to the sides. Scars can be reduced relatively over time with the right care.
Drains are placed when necessary. It is removed after 12-24 hours. The patient is discharged after 1 day. After the operation, the patient is dressed in a special corset. This corset should be used for 4-6 weeks.
The patient returns to his normal life after 1 week.
